I Would Put Them Back In Poetry

Here, I lay my words to rest. Etched in ink and pencil lead.

I Swallowed A Butterfly

I swallowed a butterfly,
I can feel it in my throat.
It’s joyless, panicked fluttering
Accompanies each note.

I try to confess this burden,
But I’m held in a cocoon.
Enduring metamorphosis,
Until something evil blooms.

I swallowed a butterfly,
Or perhaps it was a moth.
If so I can feel the sinister
Engulf me with each cough.

I consumed something beautiful,
It’s spirit wants to be free
I can’t help feeling this love
Will be the death of me.
